Hammertoe, claw toe, and mallet toe is conditions that deform the shape of the four smaller toes. This results in them being a curved position.
Toes may have a flexible some normal or the joint can no longer move normally. Hammertoe can be treated by wearing orthotics with roomy footwear and doing toe exercises. Over-the-counter pain medication may also provide relief.
Symptoms include pain, sores, and calluses or corns. A patient may experience pain and difficulty straightening the toe(s). Sores, corns, and calluses may develop, as a result of friction on the inside of ill-fitting footwear.
